Alcohol Causes Injustice

The Bible says so. This article entitled Engage Life with a Clear Mind was written by Evangelist Wil Rice.

Proverbs 31:4-5: It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

The Bible tells us that God has given us richly all things to enjoy. God created this magnificent world, and there is everything right and nothing wrong with enjoying it. It is important to remember, however, that there is a difference between throwing a party and having a celebration. A party is something we do merely for fun. There is nothing wrong with fun, but a party doesn*t need anything but an excuse. A celebration, on the other hand, needs a reason because it highlights the importance of something. Many people are partying today that know nothing about celebration because there is nothing significant that they are giving heed or emphasis to in their life.

In Proverbs 31 we find the words of King Lemuel, the prophecy which his mother taught him. At the very outset, I am reminded that even a king can learn from his mother or yield to his own vices. Verse 4 says, *It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.* It is not for someone who would make wise decisions to be indulging in alcohol because it clouds thinking, weakens memory, and causes a perversion of justice and judgment.

In contrast, verses 6-7 say, *Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.* In other words, drink is for those who want to forget about life, not for those who are fully engaged in directing it with wise choices.

May God help us to enjoy life with clear minds. Those who have made foolish decisions will not make them right by drowning their sorrow and fogging their judgment. And those who have something to celebrate should celebrate with the clarity of mind and good conscience that God designed us to enjoy.
